It’s days before Christmas! I know, I know, I could use this phrase at the beginning of the year and it would still make sense. So let’s switch it up….. It’s less than a month to Christmas!
‘Tis the season to be jolly, that’s why it is loved very widely because it is a season of joy. For some, Christmas brings the family together, for others, it’s the only time they get to celebrate their birthdays by ‘sharing it with Jesus’ (I mean, how special. Imagine a parent telling their child born in March to wait till Christmas for cake because they will also be celebrating Jesus’s birthday then). Christmas also gives some a chance to eat good food or enough food, because as we all know by now, Christmas has become routine making even the food commonplace. So the quantity and variety are what separates Christmas food from any other, unless otherwise.
Overall Christmas means relaxation. Even for you who has to get up at three to start wrapping food in banana leaves and peeling, washing, re-cleaning, cutting, ironing…. Or for you who leaves work on the 23rd and is given only three days off. At the end of the day when all is eaten and done, relaxation takes center stage. This is when we start singing “Mary’s Sponchas Jesus Christ was born on Christmas day’ our rendition of Boney M’s ‘Mary’s Boy Child.’ We then begin dancing along to tunes selected by the Gen-Zs, and because it is Christmas the parents do not complain. The climax to all this would be story time or a movie night.
From Home Alone, to A Christmas Story, to All I Want for Christmas is You, to Love Hard, to Klaus, to Single All the Way, to Little Women….. sigh. It’s all warm and fuzzy feelings falling like snow or a slow drizzle with a warm cup of whatever it is that keeps you warm on a cold night.
This season, ‘Meet Me Next Christmas’ brings its new flavor to the atmosphere. It largely emulates the fundamentals of Christmas; family, fun, and love. Starring Christina Milian as Layla the lady looking for love who got dumped on Christian Eve only to meet the love of her life very unexpectedly.
On this Christmas adventure, Layla has the privilege of meeting two great men, Teddy played by Devale Ellis, and James played by Kofi Siriboe. James is the hot guy she deeply connects with at the airport and Teddy is the clumsy guy (who is secretly hot but hides it under his youth pastor attire) she doesn’t even remember bumping into at the airport.
The Pentatonix an American a cappella group provides a steady heartbeat for this movie with Christmas specials, while Jordy played by Kallen Allen graces the audience with incredible comic relief. The subtly recurring red undertones in the costumes add to the magical Christmas feeling and the love lingering in the air.
