On October 9, 2023, Uganda celebrated its 61st Independence Day with the launch of a new multi-functional 3-wheeler vehicle called Bingwa. Bingwa was officially launched by the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in Kitgum district.
Bingwa was designed and developed by a team of self-trained innovators led by Rogers Mubiru of Kevoton Motions Engineering Ltd, in collaboration with Kiira Motors Vehicle Plant in Jinja. The engine casting for the Bingwa was completed at the John Lugendo Foundry in Kibuye, Kampala.
The Bingwa is powered by a fuel-efficient 0.8-litre two-stroke engine and boasts a higher power-to-weight ratio compared to traditional four-stroke engines.
Bingwa is a truly multi-functional vehicle, with the ability to transport one thousand kilograms of goods, pump six thousand litres of water per hour, and generate six kilowatts of electricity every hour. These features make Bingwa an ideal vehicle for farmers and rural households not only in Uganda but also in most parts of Africa, who often face challenges with access to transportation, water, and power supply.

For example, the Bingwa can be used to transport farm produce to market, even over rough roads. It can also be used to pump water from wells and other water sources for irrigation, livestock farms, and even home use. Additionally, the Bingwa can be used to generate electricity for homes and businesses, which can improve the quality of life in rural areas.
In his speech at the launch event, President Museveni praised Bingwa as a “revolutionary vehicle” that will help to transform rural Uganda. He said that Bingwa will help to improve agricultural productivity, reduce poverty, and create jobs.
