Following the resignation of Anthony Kituuka, who held the position since November 2022, Equity Bank Uganda Limited has announced the appointment of Gift Shoko as its new Managing Director, effective pending regulatory approval.
Who Is Gift Shoko?
Not much is publicly known about Gift Shoko’s background beyond his extensive 26 years of experience in the banking sector, particularly in commercial banking across Southern and Eastern Africa, having previously served as the Executive Director at Equity Bank Uganda. Prior to this, he held positions including Group Director for Regional Business at NCBA and Chief Executive Officer of Commercial Bank of Africa (Tanzania).
Shoko holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies and Computer Science from the University of Zimbabwe and an MBA specializing in Banking and Finance from CIMA in Nicosia, Cyprus. He is also a certified Executive Coach and has various professional accolades that add to his leadership profile.
The EBUL Board of Directors expressed confidence in Mr. Shoko’s leadership, noting his extensive experience in banking, corporate strategy, and digital transformation. The Board is optimistic that his appointment will strengthen Equity Bank Uganda’s commitment to enhancing customer experience and expanding its reach in Uganda.
