Kampala, Uganda, September 3, 2026 – The Ministry of Education and Sports has reaffirmed that pre-primary, primary and secondary schools in Uganda will open for the third term of the 2026 academic year on Monday, September 14.

Issued by Ministry spokesperson Dr Dennis K. Mugimba, the statement clarifies what the Ministry described as “misinformation” spreading on social media about the start of the third term.

The Ministry reiterated that the September 14 start date, as published in the official 2026 school calendar in November 2025, remains unchanged. Term Three will span 82 days and conclude on Friday, December 4, 2026.

For boarding schools in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, covering Kampala, Wakiso, Mpigi and Mukono, the Ministry has advised schools to stagger the opening and closing dates for different classes over two to three days to ease traffic congestion.

The statement also warned schools against changing the official calendar without written authorisation from the Permanent Secretary.

In summary, schools across Uganda following the National/Public Curriculum are expected to open for Term Three (Third Term) on Monday, September 14, 2026.
