2024, like no other year many of us have lived through, has proved to be a pinnacle of technological advancements. It’s almost as though the COVID-19 years allowed tech companies to silently work on groundbreaking innovations. From the leaps in artificial intelligence and generative AI—let’s be honest, they only got better this year—to quantum computing, renewable energy, and biotechnology, it’s been a year of milestones. Not to mention inspiring achievements like SpaceX’s rocket-catching technology, Tesla’s Optimus Robot, and Tesla Cybercab—what hasn’t Elon Musk ventured into?
And now, the spotlight shifts to China, where Huawei, despite facing US sanctions, continues to innovate. Over the week, the Chinese tech giant unveiled yet another fascinating tech innovation that is taking the internet by storm—a move that could be seen as a jab at Apple. At the launch of the Huawei Mate 70 series and Mate X6 foldable phone, the Chinese tech giant introduced an exciting new file-sharing feature, the so-called AI Teleportation. This technology allows users to make a simple gesture to “grab” content from one device and “drop” it onto another. Isn’t that cool?
Huawei’s grab-and-drop feature, though the exact mechanics remain unexplained, adds a unique option to the already vast array of file-sharing methods available for mobile devices. This gesture-based file transfer sets itself apart with its intuitive and sci-fi-like approach.

Video clips of Huawei users have surfaced on social media, demonstrating the feature with similar gestures. According to the Huawei site, the functionality is powered by the front cameras and sensors embedded beneath the screen.
Currently, the drag and drop feature supports images and screenshots across devices of the same OS. While it would be great to see it extended to documents, videos, and larger files, it would be even better if it could work not only on Huawei’s latest Android-free HarmonyOS but also on other versions and devices.
