The Uganda Electoral Commission (EC) has an online voter locator at ec.or.ug/register. However, the system requires a National ID number, an application number, or district details, information that many Ugandans either do not have or struggle to provide accurately. This challenge has been worsened by delays at NIRA, which has not issued National ID cards to new applicants or those who renewed.
To address this gap, Fanon, a web portal developed by independent civic technologists and not affiliated with the EC, offers an alternative solution. Using only your full name and date of birth, you can check your polling station in Uganda online and retrieve your Voter Identification Number (VIN). With a valid VIN, voters can present themselves at their designated polling station and vote, even without a National ID.
The platform supports multiple local languages. In addition to English, voters can use Kiswahili, Luganda, Lusoga, Runyankore, Ateso, Lugisu, Runyoro, and Acholi.
How to Find Your Polling Station in Uganda on Registry.ugtally
Go to registry.ugtally.com/find-your-polling-station.
Choose your preferred language and select “Continue.”
Enter your full name, for example, ‘Nalumansi Jane,’ and select “Search.”
Select your date of birth by choosing the day, month, and year, then click “Find My Record.”
If your full name matches the date of birth entered, the system will display, along with other confirming details, your Voter Identification Number (VIN), the name of your designated polling station in Uganda, Personal Number (PERNO) shown next to your gender, and a Google Maps link to guide you directly to your polling station.

The record page also provides additional details, including the total number of registered voters at that polling station, and a direct link to the official Electoral Commission portal for verification. Using the PERNO provided on the Fanon system, you can copy and paste it into the EC portal to access further polling station information.
