Travellers use them for convenience, content creators book them for shoots, but in Uganda, many Airbnbs are quietly more occupied by couples, people in secret relationships, and online escorts looking for a discreet place they can walk into as if they are entering their own home. That sense of privacy is exactly why the recent online claims have unsettled so many people.
Kyanja Airbnb Videos
Recently, the phrase “Kyanja Airbnb videos” started making rounds on X and TikTok, with many users talking about how hidden cameras may have been placed inside at least one Airbnb apartment in the area. Social media posts allege that several private videos, in parts or a series, of different guests have been leaked online, with some rumours even dragging in public figures.
The story spread so quickly because it struck at the very heart of what drives many people to choose Airbnb over traditional lodges or guest houses in the first place: privacy. When claims of leaked intimate videos from Kyanja Airbnbs began circulating online, even if still unconfirmed, they instantly triggered fear and suspicion, especially among those who had previously occupied Airbnbs in the area.
Stories around the Kyanja Airbnb videos have also left legitimate hosts in the area facing backlash they did not cause. The viral claim is yet to make guests question every camera-like object, charging port, wall clock, or smoke detector in a room before making payment.
Whether the alleged leaked videos are indeed from hidden cameras in Airbnbs or simply staged to damage the reputation of the Airbnb business in the area, they have unlocked a fear that the Airbnb hosts in Uganda will now have to navigate.
