“I never imagined I would become a victim. If someone had told me this story before it happened to me, I would have laughed and dismissed it as something that only happens in movies.”
That is how a 32-year-old Kampala man, who requested anonymity, described the ordeal that left him shaken and questioning how quickly an ordinary Friday night out turned into a nightmare.
He said he had gone to this popular bar in Kololo after work to relax. Everything felt normal, as always, until a corporate-dressed woman sitting a few tables away caught his attention. “Man, she looked like she had just stepped out of the office.” He recalled.
To his surprise, the madam who seemed like she didn’t need anyone, made the first move. He said they introduced themselves, slipped into casual bar talk, and even shared a few jokes that broke the tension. The conversation flowed easily, and before long, she was ordering drinks as if they already knew each other.
“I reached for my wallet to pay the bill, but she stopped me. She smiled and said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ve got this.’”
According to him, the woman paid the entire bill for the night without hesitation.
“I actually felt lucky. You don’t expect someone you’ve just met to insist on paying your bill.”
One drink turned into another as they talked about work, life, and everything in between. By the time the live band was wrapping up its final set and the crowd had started thinning out, she suddenly appeared too intoxicated to even stand on her own.
“She struggled to form words, swaying as she spoke, but kept repeating that she couldn’t drive home in that state. She asked if I could help her get home safely.” To this, he agreed, saying it felt like the decent thing to do.
“I thought I was helping someone who had simply had too much to drink, even though I was slightly light-headed myself.”
He drove her to the address she had given him. At the gate, while they waited for the askari to open, she kept thanking him repeatedly, almost insistently, before making her final request as they parked in the compound.
Smiling, she leaned closer and whispered, “So, Mr Stranger, would you be a gentleman and let me in?” Adding, “Please come in, even for just a minute. At least have a glass of water before you leave.”
At this stage, as he narrated, nothing about the situation felt suspicious; “I imagined she was just a loaded woman who longed for special treatment from a man. And so, I gave in”
The moment he stepped inside, with the woman behind him, everything changed.
“The madam shut the door behind me!” he angrily stated.
In a split second, he turned around, only to see two other women emerge from another room.
“That’s when I realised that I had walked into a trap.” He said, before stressing, “Man, I knew I was cooked!”
He alleges the women overpowered and sexually assaulted him, right there in the seating room, before taking photos and videos, saying it was “security” in case he made a “big deal” out of it.
“When it was over, they acted as though nothing serious had happened.”
One of the women reportedly handed him UGX 50,000, adding, “At least you have transport home.”
He explains that the gesture made the experience even more humiliating.
“As if the ‘ekizike’ note could erase what had just happened.”
He left in shock. “For days, I couldn’t tell anyone, asking myself who would believe a man, until someone told me about you guys.”
