The Electoral Commission of Uganda (EC) has announced a fresh wave of short-term recruitments ahead of the 2025/2026 general elections. The new job opportunities include positions for District/City Tally Clerks, as well as Presiding Officers and Polling Assistants.
Vacancies & What the Roles Involve
#1. District/City Tally Clerk
Number of positions: 888 District tally clerks countrywide.
Purpose of the job: Tally Clerks will be responsible for capturing and verifying election results from the official Declaration of Results (DR) forms into the EC’s election results software. They will verify the captured results against the original DR forms, ensure completeness and correctness, store and file the physical DR forms properly, manage tally-centre equipment, and secure election materials under their custody.
Engagement period: Short-term, the engagement is expected between 10 January to 10 February 2026.
Qualifications & requirements: At a minimum, applicants need a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or equivalent. Diploma holders with data-entry experience are preferred. A minimum of six months’ data entry or similar electronic/clerical records work is an advantage.
Skills & personal traits: According to the Uganda Electricity Commission, applicants should have good computer skills with fast and accurate data entry, strong attention to detail, the ability to work under pressure (including long night shifts), teamwork and communication skills, honesty, and professionalism.
How to apply: 18 years and above? submit a typed application with a comprehensive CV (including daytime telephone number in your name), copies of academic transcripts/certificates, National Identification Card, and any relevant credentials. Applications must be hand-delivered to the respective District Election Administrator. Envelopes should clearly state: “Application for the post of District/City Tally Clerk.”

#2. Presiding Officers and Polling Assistants
Duty stations: All polling stations across Uganda.
Role purpose: Presiding Officers manage all operations at a polling station on polling day, supervise polling staff, handle election materials, oversee safe custody of materials and ballot papers, ensure orderly conduct of voting, fill required election forms, and submit election returns.
Polling Assistants, under the supervision of the Presiding Officer, verify voters (using biometric kits or the voter register), issue ballot papers, guide voters through voting, assist in filling forms, help manage the polling station, and perform other duties assigned by the Presiding Officer.
Eligibility & requirements: Applicants must be registered voters, of good moral character and integrity, preferably residents of the polling area, and meet at least the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent. Election-related experience is an advantage. For Presiding Officers, at least a UACE or equivalent is required.
Presiding officers and polling assistants will be paid a daily allowance of UGX 100,000 and UGX 75,000, respectively, for all appointed polling days across the four election categories.
Application procedure: Applicants should complete the official application form and either send it or hand-deliver it to the District Election Administrator they wish to serve. The envelope should clearly indicate: “Application for the post of Presiding Officer/Polling Assistant.”

Completed applications (with required attachments) should be hand-delivered to the District Election Administrator in your area. For Tally Clerks, that is the District Election Administrator; for Presiding Officers/Polling Assistants, likely the District Registrar/relevant EC office.
Beware of Fake Job Adverts
While the latest adverts are legitimate and officially published, the EC has repeatedly warned the public about fictitious job-vacancy announcements circulating on social media, third-party websites, or via suspicious messages.
These scams often attempt to lure applicants by promising easy recruitment or by requesting personal information, processing fees, or payments upfront. In a recent statement, EC clarified that it does not hire through unofficial links, does not charge any fees for applications, and only recruits via official adverts on its website and official channels.
