If you’ve been following tech YouTubers like Marques Brownlee and Linus Sebastian, you’ve probably heard the term “TechTember.” But what does it actually mean?
TechTember is simply the unofficial season in September when major tech companies roll out their biggest products. The name blends “technology” and “September,” and for many fans, it marks the start of the most exciting stretch of the year for consumer tech devices, software, and ecosystem updates.
While Apple usually dominates the conversation with its iPhone launch events, it’s not the only player. Microsoft, Samsung, Google, OnePlus, and others often time their launches around this same period.
Notable Product Launches from Past TechTembers
- iPhone 7 & 7 Plus (2016)
- Galaxy Note 9 (2018)
- Google Pixel 4 & 4 XL (2019)
- MacBook Pro (2021)
- iPhone 14 & Apple Watch Series 8 (2022)
- Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 & Surface Pro 10 (2023)
- iPhone 16 series (September 2024)
TechTember 2025 – What’s Coming this Year?
On September 4, at IFA 2025 in Berlin, Samsung kicked off this year’s TechTember, unveiling the Galaxy S25 FE, Tab S11 series, and new AI-powered smart home devices.
Following Samsung’s announcements, Apple has set September 9, 2025, for its ‘Awe Dropping’ event at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park, to reveal the iPhone 17 lineup, covering iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to replace the Plus model with an ultra-thin design. The company will also launch iOS 26, featuring new Apple Intelligence features (AI-driven) and a refreshed interface.
At the same event, Apple is expected to unveil new wearables: the Apple Watch Series 11, Watch Ultra 3, Watch SE 3, and the third generation of AirPods Pro. Reports also point to a refreshed Apple TV 4K and a new HomePod with a screen.
Following these Techtember events, Google is likely to announce the Pixel 10 series and Android 16 updates in October, while Microsoft may expand the Surface family later this year. OnePlus is also rumoured to have a late-September launch lined up.
Why TechTember matters
For tech fans, TechTember is more like the “new year” of gadgets, setting the stage for the holiday shopping rush, defining the competitive landscape among brands, and often introducing technologies that shape the next 12 months. From new smartphone designs to AI features, TechTember is more than just product launches; it drives the consumer tech market.

Fun fact: September, now the ninth month, was originally the seventh month in the Roman calendar, which is why its name comes from the Latin word ‘septem,’ meaning seven.
