Yep, it’s that time of the year when you need to renew the Airtel MasterCard (AirtelMoney Global pay by MasterCard) that you activated as soon as you heard the service had been restored. Renewal season for many, except this time the rules are different, as you’ve probably noticed while using the virtual card for online purchases.
With no self-help option to renew or regenerate a fresh one, Airtel MasterCard activation is now permanent until expiry, unlike the setup many users remember from 2021.
As we detailed in the restoration article, the virtual MasterCard that Airtel Uganda restored in February 2025 carries a one-year validity.
This is why Airtel customers who activated their cards in February 2025 and the months that followed have started receiving “your card is about to expire” notifications from platforms where the card is linked. Chances are, that alert, or the absence of a renewal button, is what brought you here.
That’s if you’ve tried Airtel’s usual support channels and walked away without a clear answer on how to renew. Well, that is actually the only way an expired Airtel MasterCard is getting renewed. There is no self-service option. Airtel’s own DM response puts it plainly: “Please note that you can not renew it[Airtel MasterCard] by yourself.”
Only Airtel support can renew your Airtel MasterCard.
With the fastest route being X, send a direct message to Airtel Uganda’s official account requesting a MasterCard renewal. Include your Airtel number and the name linked to the MasterCard. In the case documented for this article, the Airtel MasterCard renewal process took about five minutes.
